Plan B: Mirabilia Fossano, European Artists Unite

This weekend was reserved for one of the VW beetle meetings that we love going to once in a while and since it was the first nice weekend it seemed like the ideal plan. So Saturday we packed up our convertible bug with sleeping bags, tents and headed to a place called Pianfei. When we got there we noticed that there were more Harleys (or as the Italians say: har-layz) than Beetles, and without my mullet, military boots and leather vest, I felt a little out of place! We tried to make the best out of it by listening to the AC/DC coverband but after a few songs my ears started to hurt. For dinner, the options consisted of sausage panini or more grilled meat and I was out of luck! Beer was our saving grace.

After hanging out with some VW friends till about 2:30 a.m we decided to go to our tent to get some sleep. Just our luck, the "cretino" (fool) who was revving up his motorcycle blasting dirt in everyone's face for hours happened to be in the tent next to us. We found out by hearing his motorcycle snap crackle and pop with flames coming out of the engine right next to our heads. Then the revving started up again and lasted till about 4. You would think someone like this would at least sleep in the next morning, but no... his country accent was heard yelling at 6 am the next morning. Claudio and I looked at each other and decided to jet out of there.

Our plan B was going to a European event called Mirabilia which is held every summer in Claudio's hometown Fossano. Normally Fossano is dead, but this weekend always brings people here from all around the globe. We decided to check it out in the afternoon even though it's normally more fun on Saturday night. There were acrobats, mimes, musicians, artists and lots of happy people. If only we had known the night before! Here are some pics from Mirabilia:

  1. It seems that loud, unmuffled Harleys are part of the attraction to those who ride them. I can't imagine having to try and sleep next to one. On the other hand, like the "bug" folks!! Most inspiring fact about your article is that you don't seem to need much sleep to be part of all things happening in Piemonte! Great photo collage.
