CANTINA CURTO LA MORRA – WINERY INTRODUCTION

Curto is a small winery located in La Morra and they are some of the sweetest friends that we have in Langhe Region. Nadia is the actual generation of winemaker after Marco, her dad, started several years before in this beautiful corner of this wine Region called Annunziata di La Morra. They produced only red wines and their top wine is their Barolo from the Arborina Cru.  They are now working in total organic philosophy since few years ago and even on cellar their work in a total natural way with lowest amount of sulfites possible (less the 5% of the total amount allowed for law) and no yeast added, but using the natural ones from the grapes.

BAROLO LA FOIA – A GREAT EXAMPLE OF A CLASSIC BAROLO

We have been lucky to find still available the 2013 which is now in his full beauty and balance, very soft but with amazing structure and finish, perfect to enjoy with the usual important meat dishes or even with a simpler BBQ steak. We still love these wine most of everything, probably with flavorful cheeses because is there where in my mouth I feel my taste buds “dancing the Samba”!

This wine as being a Barolo has also a very long life potential if stored in proper condition, but is just amazing to enjoy now like many of you already did and enjoyed, with still a lot of freshness and beautiful notes, cheers!!!

BAROLO DOCG DENOMINATION

The BAROLO denomination is a DOCG classified wine coming from Nebbiolo vineyards located on the souther side of the Langhe Region (Barolo and Barbaresco Regions). The area as seen on the map includes eleven villages of which Barolo, Castiglione Falletto, Cherasco, Diano d’Alba, Grinzane Cavour, La Morra, Monforte, Novello, Roddi, Serralunga d’Alba, Verduno. Barolo area even though if really closed to Barbaresco Denomination area, has such a different micro clima and this is the reason of different results if we compare the vintages with the Barbaresco. The law for this DOCG requires a low yield like Barbaresco and Roero and must be aged for a total of 38 months of which 18 minimum in barrel. Barolo is made of 100% Nebbiolo grape and you may have heard “THE WINE OF THE KING and THE KING OF THE WINES”, is definitely more complex area, normally a more complex a bit powerful wine than the other two denomination. The Tannins could be a bit more aggressive, even more from some villages from the easter and souther side of the region. Total annual production is averagely 10 to 11 million bottles.
