Josetta Saffirio is a small boutique winery located in Monforte d’Alba. Woman winemaker, Sara balances mom life with 4 kids and her own winery and is also incredibly innovative and active! Not only does she produce fantastic Barolo, but a 100% Sparkling Classic Method Rose coming from the same grape, Nebbiolo! This wine has good structure and can be drunk with a whole meal.

This particular Nebbiolo d’Alba has been vinified with shorter maceration (skin contact) time to get the beautiful pale pink color, harvested with less sugar and slightly higher acidity, in order to retrieve more fresh fruits and aromas with lower alcohol percentage. A second fermentation is then done in the bottle (metodo classico) just like you would do for a Champagne and not a Prosecco let’s say. The wine sits on the lees for approximately 18 months which gives this fresh sparkling wine more complexity and structure. The winemaker highlights that this is not just a “happy hour” aperitif wine but something with more structure that can be drunk throughout a meal!

The “Nebbiolo d’Alba” DOC classified wine comes from Nebbiolo vineyards located just outside the Barolo and Barbaresco Regions, where in theory, it could never become a potential Barolo or Barbaresco. This denomination requires a lower max bottle production compared to the DOC Langhe Nebbiolo and must be 100% Nebbiolo grape.
